The New Jersey Child Care Training Program (NJCCTP)

The (NJCCTP) is funded by the Department of Human Service (DHS), Division of Family Development (DFD) and is designed to provide accessible, comprehensive, child care training for the entire state of New Jersey. All training is hands-on, challenging, fun, and practical. Course materials are immediately applicable in the work environment and the content represents best practices that are aligned with professional early childhood standards and utilizes effective adult learning techniques. NJCCTP consists of three components, each of which is unique in its own way, but work together to meet the specific needs of the providers:

Child Care Provider Workshops

These workshops are designed for providers who work with children from birth to age thirteen. Training is available for providers in center-based care, Head Start programs, family childcare homes, and after-school programs. Each workshop has a TPC, or Target Participant Code, to help you identify workshops that best meet your needs:

A/S              Administrators and supervisors

I/T                Infants and toddlers

PS               Preschool children

SA               School-aged children

GEN            General (all audiences)

Where
All workshops are held at various “host sites”- child care centers, libraries and Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies.  If you are interested in becoming a host site review the host site guidelines and complete the host site application.  Send it to our office by email, mail, or fax.

Cost
All NJCCTP workshops are free except First Aid & CPR, which has a non-refundable fee of $20.00. 

Registration
Registration is required for all workshops.  The limited number of reservations are first-come-first-served. 
There are three ways to register:

Attendance
Participants must attend the full five hours of each workshop to earn a certificate with Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  All pertinent New Jersey state requirements for staff development are met through these workshops.   

“No Show” policy
Participants who fails 3 or more times to notify FSA  that s/he cannot attend will be removed from the registration list of any workshop that is full, to make it possible for  individuals from the wait list to attend.

 Cultural Competency and English Language Learners Summer Institute for Early Childhood Teachers

This NJCCTP funded program is a 3-day Summer Institute held in the month of August. The institute is designed to enhance the thinking and practices of early childhood caregiver, in addition, to creating a culturally competent classroom that supports second language acquisition. The program infuses content, theory, practice, and simulations coupled with mentoring and coaching – the perfect formula for the achievement of ideal classroom settings!

Each participant will receive an assessment visit prior to the summer institute, followed by  three observation visits and three support visits after the summer institute has concluded. Participants will be assigned to a mentor/coach who will actively support the infusion of culture and ELL theory practices into the classroom.
